HAURATON Channel at Albany Lakes, New Zealand
Tough, lightweight & made from recycled material
All eyes may have been on the fireworks when North Shore mayor Andrew Williams opened the new Albany Lakes Civic Park on Guy Fawkes night - but what was beneath revellers' feet was certainly worth a closer look.
A feature of the park is an innovative eco-friendly stormwater treatment system. Rainfall is gathered into rain gardens or trickles across grassed areas to tree pits. The tree pits filter the rainwater before the surplus is piped to the twin lakes that are a focal point of the project.
Another eco-friendly coup is the channeling that gathers surplus run-off from paved surfaces. Auckland Civil had the job of making 1,000 m of paths for the 35,000 m² of hard landscaping. The engineering and construction company chose to use a new product, HAURATON, for the channeling.
HAURATON channel systems and accessories are made from 100% recycled PP. Not only are they environmentally friendly but they're also extremely resilient, an advance on traditional polymer concrete products which tend to be brittle.
Auckland Civil Managing Director Steve Taylor says HAURATON is a real winner because it is virtually indestructible. "It's easy to use, easy to install and you could throw it on trucks move it around the site and not have worry about it breaking."
Steve says it's the first time he's used the product and he was impressed. "We used 800 metres for channeling and one of the best things was no wastage."
The range is available through Hynds Pipe Systems branch network. HAURATON product specialist Brendon Glassey says the product offers a number of benefits to contractors.
"Even though the channel is incredibly tough it's also lightweight, making it easier to transport and handle. It offers great versatility because it can be used in light traffic areas or right up to the heaviest jobs."
HAURATON channel comes in a range of applications from DIY projects to airports. It also has multiple grate options, including stainless steel and heelguard designs.
The product meet stringent European standards which exceed requirements under AS/NZ standards. German company HAURATON has been developing and producing solutions for surface drainage for 50 years and their products are sold worldwide.
