Facelift of Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco
Different SPORTFIX channels installed in Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium
Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, which was built in 1983, is named after Prince Moulay Abdellah of Morocco. Its main sports stadium holds 65,000 seats and is mostly used for football matches and it can also stage athletics competitions. The stadium is home to two main clubs of Rabat: Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales (AS-FAR) and Fath Union Sport Football Club (FUS). As a stadium for official competitions it was a venue of the FIFA Club World Cup 2014.
In 2008 the General Assembly of the Diamond League decided to include the stadium in Rabat as a new host city for the “Meeting International Mohammed VI”. These prestigious global series of one-day athletics meetings expand the series to a fourth continent: Africa.
Renovation of the stadium after FIFA World Cup 2014
During the FIFA World Cup 2014 the new set-up of the turf could not withstand heavy rainfall. After a period of time the stands were flooded. The existing drainage system appeared to be saturated which had led the Ministry of Youth and Sports to completely renovate the football field. The aim was to host the Diamond League athletics meetings in May 2016 in the renovated stadium with the new drainage system.
The contractor was entrusted to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Logistics, which employs the leading company COTER in the fields of sports floor and sanitation of drainage systems. COTER is the HAURATON Exclusive Distribution Partner in Morocco.
After consulting with COTER, the contractor decided to use synthetic coatings for the race track and the complete competition areas.
SPORTFIX SUPER Slotted Channels for IAAF accredited sports facilities
For the new drainage system 183 meters of SPORTFIX SUPER Slotted Channels without upstand, straight and 237 meters of RECYFIX PLUS 100 Type 010 were installed. Furthermore for the running track 400m of SPORTFIX Aluminium Curbings were installed. The set consists of straight and curved units of 2.5 m length. The curbings have an intake on both sides.
For the steeplechases a modular construction for a quick and easy assembling was chosen: The SPORTFIX Water jump Aluminium. The water jump consists of prefabricated wall panels and includes an additional shaft for water fittings and hurdles.
Additionally 104 meters of SPORTFIX Soft kerbs for jumping pits, 16 angle pieces and 84 meters of SPORTFIX Sand traps were installed. The SPORTFIX Sand traps prevent sand spreading on to the running track.
